TradeStops – Common Credential Problems

| The TradeStops system is a great way to monitor and track your positions and the ones that interest you. We do our best to make the system simple to use. Sometimes, though, errors can occur. Today, we will talk about navigating some common login issues our users have. Knowing how to fix these common errors can help you become a more successful TradeStops user and investor. Initial Login PageWhen you visit tradestops.com, you are brought to our home page. In the upper right-hand corner, you should see “LOGIN” and “SIGN UP.” To access your TradeStops program, just click the login button. |
You can also save our login page to your favorites in your Browser, if you’d like, https://tradestops.com/login/ You will then be brought to the login page. If you use a password manager or have your Browser save your username and password, you might see your email and password already typed in for you. |
This can be useful if you have a complicated password or have a hard time remembering it. It can cause problems, though. If you update your password, your password manager or your Browser might not pick up on the new password. It could still type in the old password for you. As a result, you wouldn’t be able to access your account. If you try logging in while using a password manager or your Browser and receive an error, try hand-typing your password. This can sometimes solve the problem. |
If the error continues, you can use the forgot password link. It’s located directly below the green LOGIN button. Just click that link and enter the email that you use with your TradeStops account. | |
You’ll later receive an email to your personal Inbox with instructions on how to reset your password. Make sure to check your Spam and Junk folder for the email.Broker Synchronization Set-UpAs you may already know, you can sync numerous broker portfolios with the TradeStops system. This is a great way to import your data in a short period of time. When you first set up your broker with us, we will ask you for your broker credentials. Your password manager or Browser can make this a little difficult. Let’s look at the photo below. |
| | In the above picture, we were trying to add our Scottrade account. Scottrade asks for our account number and password. BUT, our Browser has typed in our TradeStops credentials for us. It does not make sense to use a name as an account number, right? Updating Portfolio CredentialsSometimes, errors can occur with your synced portfolio. This can happen if your broker updates their website, if they have new terms and conditions for you to accept, and more. As a result, we would ask you to update your broker credentials. Once again, your password manager or Browser could type in your TradeStops credentials. You need to enter your broker credentials. |
| | Simply delete anything that is typed for you. Then, type your broker credentials. This will ensure that you do not receive an error for wrong credentials. If an error code appears other than 402, please contact customer success at [email protected]. If you do receive a 402 error code, it means that you entered your credentials incorrectly. You can try entering them again. If you receive another error code, please contact customer success. Accessing NewslettersAnother great feature in TradeStops is that we display numerous newsletters that you might be subscribed to. When in TradeStops, click the newsletters tab in the top black menu, and then select the publisher that you wish to access. If you haven’t already entered your newsletter credentials, you will be prompted to do so. We’ll look at an example. This is for Stansberry’s Capital Portfolio. |
| | The Capital Portfolio asks for you to submit an email address. You can see in the photo above that our Browser auto-filled the TradeStops username. If we tried to submit this, we would receive an error message. Always make sure to use the credentials associated with what you are trying to access. In this case, we would delete what has been filled for us and then enter the email associated with our Stansberry Capital Portfolio account. We hope this helpsPassword Manager and Browser programs are supposed to make credentials easier. Sometimes, as with all technology, they can cause some minor problems. There are work arounds that we discussed in this article today. If you follow the steps we discussed, logging in, working with your synced portfolios, and newsletters can be simple.
