Last week we taught you about Alert views. They’re helpful when you want to monitor your alerts more closely. The previous week we taught you how to create custom position views. This is helpful when you want to see certain information for different types of portfolios.

This week, we will cover closed position views. We know that you have a busy life, and keeping good records can be hard. This is where TradeStops comes in to help. Our Closed Position Views can help you easily keep track of the positions you no longer own.

Where are my Closed Positions?

To view Closed Positions, take the following steps:

  • First, click on Positions & Alerts tab in the main menu at the top of the page (1).
  • Next, click to select the portfolio containing the closed positions, or select All to view all closed positions in all portfolios (2).
  • Then, click on the Closed Positions tab (3).
  • Click to select the period of Closed Positions you would like to view (4). The default period shows the last 7 days.

Accessing Closed Positions

NOTE: Synchronized positions that are sold through your broker will automatically close in TradeStops. Manually entered positions that you sell will need to be closed manually.

How do I work with a Closed View?

Closed Views can help you keep track of the positions that you no longer own. This is especially helpful if you plan on entering one of these closed positions again in the future.

To create a custom closed position view, take the following steps:

  • Click on the Positions & Alerts tab (1) in the main menu at the top of the page.
  • Click on the Closed Positions tab (2).

Closed Positions

Remember, this page might look blank if you have the period set to only 7 days if you haven’t closed any positions in the last 7 days.

Click on the Add View button (1) located on the right side of the page. On smaller screens, this will appear as a + button.

Add View

The following Add View section will display. This is where the fun begins. In the page that appears, you can select which information will display on this page or not.

View Options
  • Enter a name (1) for the new custom view.
  • Click the check boxes for columns to add to the view, or deselect columns you would like to remove.
  • If you make changes that you would like to undo, you can click “Reset to Basic View” (2) to go back to the default columns.
  • To rearrange columns, simply click on the column header in the area below and drag and drop it to its new location (3).
    • Please note that you cannot move the Actions, SSI, or Symbol column.
  • Click the Save button (4).

If you aren’t sure what a column title means, just hover your mouse over it. A small text box will appear, and it will define the column for you. NOTE: Definitions and formulas can be found in the section Calculations and Column Definitions.

Once saved, newly created custom views can be selected by clicking on the view on the Closed Positions tab of the Positions & Alerts page as shown below.

Click View

If you want to switch to a different view, just click on another view title.

Can I edit a Closed Position View?

You can! The best part is that it’s easy. First, make sure that you are on your Closed Positions. Then, locate the view that you want to edit and make it active. An active view will be dark – like in the photo above.

To edit the view, click the small pencil to the right of the view name. The edit window will then appear.

Edit Options
  • Edit the name (1), if applicable.
  • Click the check boxes for columns to add to the view, or deselect columns you would like to remove.
  • To rearrange columns, simply click on the column header in the area below and drag and drop it to its new location (2).
    • Please note that you cannot move the Actions, SSI, or Symbol column.
  • If you would like to save your edits as a new view, select “Save as New” (3). Otherwise, select “Save.”
  • To delete a view, select “Delete View” (4). Note: if you have only one view, it cannot be deleted.

Once again, your view is available in the upper right corner of the Closed Positions tab. Just click on it to view the information.
