Last week, we taught you about custom position views for the different types of portfolios you might have. Many of you enjoyed this article and learned a lot.

This week we will cover alert views. They help you keep better track of the alerts you have set on your positions. Being informed about your alerts can make you a better TradeStops user and investor.

Let’s get started.

Creating Your Own Custom Alert View

Click on the Positions & Alerts tab (1) in the main menu at the top of the page.

Click on the Alerts tab (2), and locate your Alerts Views section on the right.

accessing alerts

Click the Add View button (1) located on the right side of the page above the listed positions. On smaller screens, this will appear as a + button.

Add a view

After you click the button, the view screen will appear. This is where the fun begins. You can add information or take information away.

view options
  • Enter a name (1) for the new custom view.
  • Click the check boxes for columns to add to the view, or deselect columns you would like to remove.
  • If you make changes that you would like to undo, you can click “Reset to Basic View” (2) to go back to the default columns.
  • To rearrange columns, simply click on the column header in the area below and drag and drop it to its new location (3).
    • Please note that you cannot move the Actions, Status, SSI, VQ%, or Symbol columns.
  • Click the Save button (4).

If you are confused about what any of the column titles are, just hover your mouse over it. A small pop-up will appear with a definition of the title.

Once saved, newly created custom views can be selected by clicking on the view on the right side of your screen.

If you have more than 3 views saved, additional views can be found under the drop-down arrow.

You can switch to that other view by simply clicking on the view’s title.

Can I edit a view?

You can, and it’s easy. This is especially helpful if you no longer want to view certain information or if you would like to view more information. As always, you can even move your columns around. Editing the alert view lets you fully customize it to your specific needs.

To edit an alert view, take the following steps…

Click on the Positions & Alerts tab (1) in the main menu at the top of the page.

Click on the Alerts tab (2), and then scroll to the right side of the page to view the available views as follows:

make sure you are on alerts

Click your view to edit, and click on the edit (pencil) icon to make any changes to your view.

click the edit pencil

Remember, the edit pencil will only appear if your view is active (in gray). You won’t be able to edit a view unless it is the active view.

After you click the button, the view screen will appear just like last time.

view options
  • Edit the name (1), if applicable.
  • Click the check boxes for columns to add to the view, or deselect columns you would like to remove.
  • To rearrange columns, simply click on the column header in the area below and drag and drop it to its new location (2).
    • Please note that you cannot move the Actions, Status, SSI, VQ%, or Symbol columns.
  • If you would like to save your edits as a new view, select “Save as New” (3). Otherwise, select “Save.”
  • To delete a view, select “Delete View” (4).

Please note that if you delete a view, it cannot be restored. You would need to manually recreate the view if you decide to delete it. Note that if you only have one view, it cannot be deleted.
